Portuguese makes GPT translate to Brazilian Portuguese. You must use “European Portuguese pt-pt” to make it work properly

Why cant i pay with paypal? Says it wont accept visa debet cards?

    | Reply
    • admin

This is mostly on the PayPal side. It will not accept certain Visa Cards, and I don’t know why. Probably something has to do with the way Bank internal works. What has worked in past for most of the users is that if you have PayPal account, first load Balance in your PayPal account using your Card and then on my website, pay using the loaded Balance. Other option is to use the Crypto payments.

Sorry, for being of extra help. But not much I can do from this end except look for some other Payment gateway option soon – already in planning stage.

Hi I got this error after pay GPT.3 translation (######26242J)

Error: rate_limit_exceeded:Rate limit reached for text-moderation-006 in organization org-###### on tokens_usage_based per min. Limit: 150000 / min. Current: 1 / min.

Sorry for the trouble there. This was due to a bug in my moderation API implementation, which I have now hopefully resolved. Please try this again when convenient.

Just a reminder that you are only charged for for a successful translation i.e. you will not be charged if translation fails due to any server errors.

I tried to translate some subs from portuguese, but half of subtitles won’t uplod. I guess the problem is with those accent marks on some letters. Is there any way to fix that? Or is there any tool that will remove those marks?

    | Reply
    • admin

Normally the accent characters should not cause any problem. Most probably these are tripping my encoding detection algorithm somehow – or may be file itself is not UTF-8 encoded? Would it be possible for you to share a copy of the subtitle file for further debugging/isolation?

    Hi!
A small feedback/bug report: when adding source subtitles in Spanish, the tool is removing every exclamation and question marks lines.
Note that Spanish uses ¡text! for exclamation and ¿text? for questions, and when there are lines with those in the subtitles, these lines are getting deleted from the source (and as so, not being translated, no matter which service is used).

example line so that you can replicate the problem:

    3
    00:00:32,000 –> 00:00:34,500
    ¡Hola!

in this case lines 1, 2, and 4 are being correctly imported, but line 3 becomes fully blank.
I hope this help you improve this so useful tool you give us!

Thanks for sharing the issue Anna. Unfortunately, I’m not able to reproduce this issue in a quick try. For me the line with subtitle text “¡Hola!” seems to be displaying and translating correctly. I have a hunch that this may be due to the File encoding format. Can you please check if the file you are trying to upload is actually UTF-8 (there are multiple online tools which can do that). If not, can you please try to first encode the file to UTF-8 and try this again.

If possible, please send me the copy of the subtitle file (email address at the bottom of the page), so that I can investigate this properly.

      Regards, Akbar

      Hi Melany,

Thanks for your message and sorry for the trouble. I replied in detail via email, but in case this helps others, it looks like you were not selecting the target language correctly. Since your subtitles are in Spanish, please choose a different target language. I will think about making the interface a bit more clear to avoid this confusion in the future.

I’m not sure why, but the Google Translate option always translates the Norwegian ‘Nei’ [‘No’] to ‘In the’, and ‘Ja’ [‘Yes’] to ‘And’. Other than that, this is a wonderful tool, thanks!

Interesting! I assume you observe the same behaviour if you also translate directly at the Google (https://translate.google.com/)? If yes, then probably nothing I can do from my side other than to recommend to use Find/Replace feature on my website to fix these. Though I know it’s very context sensitive, so you have to probably review and fix this carefully.

Other better option could be to report this to Google support directly and hope that they fix it soon.

Thanks and interesting! In a quick scan, I think while this will work for a hobby project used by a single person, since this one exploits the Web front-end of DeepL to make the translate calls, I don’t think it will work on my website which is used by dozen of people simultaneously. There is a related warning in the github page too:

“It is not recommended, because the immersive-translate will send many requests in a short time, which will cause the DeepL API to block your IP.”

But it’s an interesting idea and will definitely read more about this and if there is a legitimate way to use it, I will definitely add this to my to-do list.

Thanks for keep sharing these interesting projects.

This one definitely looks interesting, but looks like LibreTranslate is in very early stage of the start-up and their docs are very rudimentary and payment model a bit sketchy. The self hosted option unfortunately may not work that easily with my current hosting provider. In future (hopefully soon), once I move my website to some cloud hosting, I can look more into these side projects. For now, unless, their translation quality is way way good (like on DeepL or Azure level), I’m probably going to not put much effort in these. Thank you for your undestanding.

Hello and thanks for the fantastic work. I have issues with COLOR subtitles we use in Italy.
Some of the subtitles, some with single line, some with double line are not translated and
just copied to the new subtile in the original language (italian).
Translation would be from Italian to Finnish. I report 5 lines

    49
    00:05:42,240 –> 00:05:44,440
    En pidä myöhästymisestä.

    tyttäreni, aito, on kadonnut.

    – Hai preso le medicine ?
    – Sì, le ho prese. – Andiamo .

    52
    00:05:52,800 –> 00:05:55,840
    Di qua, giusto ?

    53
    00:05:55,880 –> 00:05:59,160
    – Kuinka ikävöin Torinoa!
    – Etkö ollut onnellinen Pariisissa?

    54
    00:05:59,200 –> 00:06:01,680
Kyllä, tietysti, mutta kotimme on täällä.

In this example subtitle 51 and 52 are still in Italian language
I hope you solve this bug. Thank you.

When using Google Translate (Single or bulk translation) the % jumps to 99% fairly quickly, and remains there until full translation is done. The text to translate is no longer scrolling through the window, as it did before. With this you have no idea how long the translation(s) will take. When doing bulk translation, the only indication it is moving forward is jumping from 1of3 to 2of3 and 3of3. Eventually the save button is activated and the text is translated as expected.
Running the translation on all latest browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc.), all have the same issue.
Please fix the running status of the translation.

Thanks for the feedback. Please note that with recent optimisations, I’m no longer linearly translating rows during translations i.e. as multiple rows are now translated in the parallel – thus it doesn’t make much sense in scrolling the page as rows may be translated out of the linear order.

That said, I was able to reproduce that translation getting stuck at 99% at and have fixed that too – plus with even more optimisation of the translation speed. Please try this again after clearing your browser cache. If still run into any issues, please let me know.

If you are using Google translator, you don’t have to pay anything. It’s totally free. For the DeepL and OpenAI, you have to pay for translation (as their translation API is not free). You can read more about this here:

Maube you need make a paid version of Google translate, that can be faster then free ? I would pay for this function if translation to 30 languages was 30 sec in paid version , because now its take 5-10 minutes

Okay, I will think about supporting paid Google Translation API. But I have recently applied some really good optimisation for the Google Free translator too, which I don’t think are that easy to beat even with the paid API option. Please note that the main delay in the translation process is the API call to the translator, which uses an AI engine/model to translate the text. So unless we do some crazy parallelisation of work (which though possible might not be feasible with my current hosting provider), this is best I think I can offer at the moment.

Just for comparison, you can try the paid DeepL or Microsoft translators on my website and see if you like the throughput and/or quality?

Hello! Maybe you must sell packs with 10 or 20 or 30 or 50 threads by extra prices, i see now its 5 threads i think. Maybe a dedicated server pack, to translate in 100 threads almost instantly, but i think it’s difficult to build in code. Great work btw , i like it )

            |
          • admin

You are right. Clever detective work Kim!

As you may have figured out already, implementing more threads will definitely require high-end server with more power and thus will require me to upgrade my hosting plan. It’s probably time to do that anyway, so this is definitely in my to-do list to move to dedicated high end node for hosting my website.

Another important limitation is that OpenAI also impose a limits of a request from a single source it allows per minute. Again, this can be worked around if I purchase multiple API accounts and build a multiple node cluster. All of this is quite possible, but not sure the demand is there yet 🙂

Hi Akbar! Is there a consensus on which Translation tool is best – Google, Yandex, DeepL, Microsoft, or OpenAI GPT? I have a number of small (1-5minute) videos I need to translate to German, French, Polish, Dutch, Norwegian, Italian, Spanish, Slovak, and Czech. Hoping there was direction on which would be the best tool to start with?

      Hi Edward,

It’s unfortunately not a simple answer. It highly depends on the translation language pair. The short answer is to try it yourself using the Free/Demo mode.

I have now added a FAQ section explaining this in a bit more details.
