  1. I really like your translation program. Could you make a windows program that monitors select folders and finds english srt files and translates to a different language and then saves the translated files. I have a plex server and have english srt files for most of my content, I would like to also have spanish. My library is very large so doing them one by one isn’t a good option. If you could make this program what would you charge?

Interesting idea for sure. But what you are looking for will need some paid translation API, and then a wrapper over that. This is complex project which I don’t currently have time for, but will see if I can come up with something similar for web as well soon.

Wasalm, thanks for the feedback and suggestion Zakaria. This is now automated by the “Translate” button on the top-right corner. Hope that helps.

If it just gets stuck there, can you try manually scrolling through the visible content to see if that helps? If the issue still persists, can you please send me the subtitle file you are trying to translate?

No, not yet. But this is something which has been in the to-do list for long. I will see if I can get some free time to complete this soon.

When moving from English to Spanish, and saving the SRT file, accents and grammatical constructions are not preserved, since you should save the file in Unicode (UTF-8). And the translations are not very accurate in some cases the Systram translator works better.

      Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback. The issue is that you can’t upload the video files for translation. It only support subtitle files (ending with extension .SRT or .SUB).

Thanks for the feedback. What browser you are using? Did you try any other browser? Also, does the page freeze during any specific action or it does randomly? The more details I get, the better chance of reproducing and thus fixing the issue.

In this case you have to first extract the subtitles file from the movie before doing any translation. I don’t have any such tool recommendation, but there are couple of tools available online which can do that for you depending on the format of the movie file.

Does it complain about the invalid SRT file format? If yes, then probably the convertor you are using is adding something special which is not recognized by my app? Can you please share the name or link of the convertor you are using so that I can see what might be wrong here?

    Salam Akbar,

Hope everything is OK at your end and let me seize this chance to thank you very much for all your efforts in making the life easier for many people around the world.

I have a suggestion which I hope you take it into consideration.

Currently, the Subtitle Translator is translating from one language to another and if I want to translate from one language to many, I will have to loop for every language.

May I suggest to update the code to fulfill the following user stories

As a user, I can choose the languages, so I can translate the subtitle to multiple languages in one step.
As a user, I can click on Save as button, so I can save all the subtitles translates to multiple languages in one step

Very much appreciate your kind feedback in this regard.

    Kind Regards,
    Fouad Sabry

      Salam Fouad,

Thank you very much for your feedback, and I’m glad that you and many others are finding the translator of help.

Regarding your suggestion to support multiple translation at once, it’s a nice one, and would definitely improve the overall process. However, it’s slightly tricky to implement as currently the Google Translator has a limit of how much you can translate for free on single page, and for the more data you need a paid service. So to help keep this service free, I’m kind of limiting one translation at time.

However, this is definitely something I have plans for, and would support as soon as right set of APIs become available.

        Salam Akbar,

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback. I really appreciate that.

        I think I have a tweak for that…

I am pretty sure from front end you can allow the user to select multiple languages…

As for the back end, I suggest to limit the translation requests to 1 per minute and definitely limit the size of the file just to make sure that the tool is still within the boundaries of the free service by Google Translator.

I really keep bringing this suggestion once again as it does really matter a lot for many around the world…

Kindly, let me know your thoughts about that…

        Thanks a lot
        Fouad Sabry

Appreciate your suggestions and to make the life easy for others. This plan will work, but have to consider the overall usability when the user have to wait for that long. But nevertheless, if we show some of kind of progress with estimate remaining time, I think this plan will work. I will add this to my to-do list.

          Regards, Akbar

It’s certainty in the list, but can’t give the time frame when it will be supported. In the meantime, you can use some other subtitles format conversion tool available online to convert the file to .SRT format.
