    Hello,

I am trying to translate from greek .srt file. The majority is fine but sometimes strange symbols appears instead of greek letters.
Is there any way to change the Unicode of text?

    For example:

    Äåí åßíáé áëÞèåéá, Ñßêï.
    – ÓêÜóå, ðïõôÜíá.

Hi Joh, so just to understand this problem correctly, you see this odd symbols for characters in the webpage itself or when playing the translated file? If it’s during the webpage itself, make sure the file you are trying to upload is in UTF-8 encoding. There are many online tools which can convert your file to this format (if it’s not already in).

If you see this symbols when playing the video itself, then it may be a problem with the Video Player where it’s not recognizing a file format. For this, I would suggest try to use VLC player and see how it goes. I hope this helps.

That’s odd. When I look at the languages popup-up for Yandex, I can see the Arabic language option (in the first column). I don’t know if this list changes based on user location. Can you try this from any other browser, or VPN and see how it goes?

2 hours editing the subtitles . want to save it . the website was done and the browser told me to reload the website
this very tough . can you please Akbar make like a offline version to prevent something like this happening again . thank you for your hard work to help people .

            |
          • admin

That’s unfortunate, and sorry for the trouble! I can understand the wasted work and effort here. However, at this point, making an offline version will be pretty tricky to develop i.e. as it’s quite different to what technologies are used to build a website. The best I can suggest at the moment is that to try to frequent save/download the subtitles during editing. I know it’s not fun, but will see what I can do in the long run.

the translated text doesn’t show up. Thanks.

Sorry about the issue. What translator you are using? When you say the translated text doesn’t show up, is it that the Translated text column keep showing original language when you choose a new language? If possible try changing the translator and see if that helps e.g. if you are using Yandex, can you try Google or DeepL and see how it goes?

Only for Google translate. Google has changed some of the translator and also many translator web pages have crashed and you cannot choose the language.

Interesting! I just tried this and it seems to be working for me. Could be it broken for some regions/users? If you have VPN or proxy setup, can you try with that and see how it goes?

I am sorry. I have discovered that the bug is caused by the “Popup Blocker (strict)” plugin in my Firefox. Thanks for the help and congratulations on this wonderful website that I use almost daily for my .srt. Greetings.

Hello! I am from Brazil. Our language is Brazilian Portuguese, which is somewhat different from the Portuguese spoken in Portugal. Could you offer translations into Brazilian Portuguese? I hope so. Thanks for your work, really appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback. I can understand the difference, but it looks Google doens’t yet support translation to Brazilian Portuguese. However, both Microsoft and DeepL support these Brazilian variant, but then these are not free to use. You can try one these and see if that works for you?

So when you click on the Save-As button, nothing happens? What browser you are using? Can you please try with latest Chrome or Firefox? If you have any Anti-Virus software installed, can you temporarily disable that to see if it resolves the issue?

Hello! I can’t upload the SRT file on the web page, display: error message, can’t upload this type of file. My files are SRT files that work in the player. It’s just that the SRT file icon is displayed with a question mark. Is there any file missing from my mobile phone. Please help me to solve this problem, how to display the correct format of SRT on the mobile phone. thank you!

The subtitle upload handler not only checks the file extension (it should be .SRT), but it also checks that content that it matches the SRT subtitles standard. If you think both of these are correct, and yet can’t seems to resolve the issue, can you please send me a copy of the SRT file at my email “gakbar {at} gmail {dot} com” (translate the @ and “.” characters please) for further debugging.

Sorry for the trouble. From your comments, it looks like something is blocking downloads on your machine. Do you use any Antivirus software? If yes, can you temporarily disable this and try downloading the files again? Also you mentioned error related to “invalid format”. where do you get this error? When you click on the download button?

Thanks Ibrahim. As you may have realized, all the translation options on my site are machine and free translation, so I’m not sure I can take advantage of your services in this regard. However, the humans translators have their important role, and there are many other online services which offer that on reasonable rates. So you may try your luck there.

Glad to know you think you found a suitable course. When I was young, I used to create games in C, Visual Basic and FoxPro. But now there are many more suitable languages. Even the HTML/JavaScript is a good choice to develop something quick and interesting. Good Luck!

  19. Hi,

your tool is phenomenal! Great work!

I don’t want to sound greedy, but would it be possible to create a similar tool which is able to translate XML-files? XML-files are often used as language packs. Very often, not all languages are provided. One could use online-translator-Services (like Google, Bing or Deepl), but there is the problem, that the fieldnames (those in -brackets) should not be translated. So one would need to use a tool, that opens an XML and does this (line by line): read-in the line, save the fieldname (everything in and ) into a temporary file, strip the fieldname, submit the rest of the line to an online-Translation-Service, download the result, add the fieldnames (from temporary file) and save the line – go to the next line.

    Just a suggestion.

Thanks for all your work and keep care,
    Alex

Thanks Alex for the feedback. Regarding your suggestion, if the XML is kind of some standard subtitle format, then I can look into supporting that soon. If it’s more like generic XML, then I think it would be a side track issue, and may be best suited as its own tool. I will see if I can get some free time soon to develop something similar, but I can’t give any time frame on this one.

Thanks for sharing your story with my Shubh. I think passion is the most important thing in this field for success. If you just love to do your work/job/study, you will never get bored, and can do amazing things without much effort. Since you are still so young, so still have some time to decide on which way to steer for your best future. If you like programming, I would suggest enrolling in slighlty more advance online courses (coursera.org or udacity.com) and keep improiving your skill. You can then go from there in the direction you want. When I was young, I liked to play video games, so I started developing few games as my hobby. This will help you develop really good understnading of how things work in the game, and will improve your problem solving skills a lot. If you are looking for more detailed input or want to keep in touch in private, please feel free to email me “gakbar {at} gmail {dot} com”. My replies may be delayed, but will try to reply back for sure.
