      Signer,

Please try changing the name of your subtitle file to only have alphabets and numbers i.e. remove any other special characters like *, &, /, etc. Upload it again, and see if it works?

This is great. Can you support translating multiple subtitle files at one operation?

      Yaron,

This can’t be supported at the moment, mainly because of some limitations by Google Translation. If the demand increase, may have to go for some premium service to support this.

This should be fixed now. I was having some problem with Microsoft Translation services (used for advance editing features).

How come the captions on The Young Turks don’t make any sense, just as if they’d been done by a dumb machine?

    | Reply
    • syedgakbar

It’s because these have been translated by a dumb machine 🙂 FYI, I’m using Google Translator for this, and these translations are done on the fly by some machine at Google center.

      Snutten,

Thanks, but I just tried this from few machines, and can’t seem to reproduce the problem. Do you have some alternate machine to try this out? If no, can you please send me your sample srt file for testing?

      Dear Waniey,

Thanks for the nice comments. Regarding the support for “Malay” language, I’m currently using the Google Translator services. The Malay language is currently not supported by Google Translator, and as soon as it’s, it should appear in the list of the supported languages on this page.

What is there to say, brilliant. I tried using google translate myself but it didn’t work properly. Yours is right on the button. “Bringing Up Bobby” from Portugese to English. Naturally some of the translation is entertaining in it’s own right. The main thing is they are fully understandable and the timing is correct.

You sir are a Godsend! Ive tried downloading some translators and contemplated purchasing one online till i found your brilliant site.

However I have to point out that the translator does not like spaces between the number chronology and timecode, also spaces between sentences in the dialogue itself. It does not display anything beyond that. So I had to sort that out manually. Not a big prob.

Good job mate! Who cares about typos???

      Ariff,

If you can send me the sample subtitle file in which the spaces is creating problem, I can see if there is any simple workaround for these.

I try to upload srt files, but I get the message ‘The filetype you are attempting to upload is not allowed.’ But the webite does say that ‘Currently only the SubRip format (having extension “.srt”) is supported. So what’s wrong?

      John,

You should be able to upload any .srt files without any issues. Can you please confirm if what you are uploading is actually an “SRT” file? If yes, can you send me that via email at [email protected]? Also, please let me know the Operating System you are using and its version?

On this webpage (above, see below), you spelled “Subitle” and should be “SubTitle” if spelled correctly. You left out one of the “t” letters, is what I mean to say:
“Please browse and upload the Subitle file (having extension .srt) to translate:”

I realize that this is a TRIVIAL error. But this is about a program that hopefully spells ALL the words correctly, if perhaps not quite using them correctly. I look forward to trying out a translation here in the near future. WONDERFUL that you would share this translation capability in this manner.

Italian special characters in the original subtitle are not displaying when you import the file, which kind of makes the translation pointless..!

      Zogo,

If you can supply me a sample Italian subtitle file, and also highlights the particular character being changed, I can look into this better. You can email me these at [email protected].

Hello Zogo! I am Italian and I have the same problem … I think the subtitles are saved in Charset UTF8 and that your player is configured to read the subtitles in the ISO8859-1 or Charset Windows 1252 …. You can fix the problem by opening the subtitles in Notepad, select “salva con nome” (“save as”), then select the item “Codifica” (“encoding”) ANSI and re-save the file …
Charset will be changed … and the characters will be automatically fixed ….

You sir, are a life saver!! I had the same problem trying to translate a subtitle to Swedish with the characters not showing up properly. So I did exactly what you described and it worked! Incredibly thankful to both you for assisting this issue and Akbar for coming up with this amazing subtitle-translator. Thank you!!
