When I upload an srt file in German and select Google, there is no option to select language to translate to, only a Translate button. When I click this, all translated text remains in German. Similarly with Yondex and Microsoft, translated text remains in German rather than the target of English chose. This is the same regardless of which browser I use, Chrome, Firefox, Opera.
Sorry for the trouble Nick! Are you using this on Mobile or Desktop? Has this ever worked for you? Can you try clearing your browser cache, or run this in the Incoginto mode to see if that helps?
Are you using Google Translate? If yes, it may have the language selected from the last translation. You can cancel that from the translator bar at top of the page. If this is not the issue, I would appreciate a bit more explanation about the problem.
Thanks for making this tool. You don’t know how convenient this is for a lot of language learners.
I’m curious about this business model, does the advertisement revenue pay for the Yandex API keys? Is it enough to keep the website running or will you be forced one day to take it down
Thanks for the feedback and I’m glad you and other are finding this of help.
Regarding your query, for now, both Google and Yandex provides free web based translation. But I personally think it will change sooner or later, and I will then have to build some other business model. Let’s see how long I can keep this service free. The longer the better ๐
Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the bug, most probably you have turned ON the merge original subtitle option. You can toggle this off by clicking merge icon at top-right corner of the Original Text column. I hope it helps.
Not sure I understand your question correctly. Do you mean how you can use translated sub-titles with a DVD movie? If yes, I guess this depends on what player you are using to play these DVD files. Have you tried or used VLC player before? If no, I would recommend exploring that.
The tool is amazing! I’m happy and grateful about it.
Just because I don’t know if you know about a issue that happen when you edit the subtitles I’m telling here.
When you edit something it insert html tags in the file that vimeo can’t read. So every time that I make some editions it’s necessary to clear the html tags in the file after it.
The solution that I found is do not edit the file here in the site. But if its easy to fix to you do it ๐
Thanks Rafael for the feedback. I think subtitle editing is an important feature, especially until the machine translation becomes perfect. I kep the HTML editing support because some users prefer that. But I can see that it’s not a choice of everyone. I will soon add some option to only keep the HTML content.
Just dropping by to say thanks a lot for making this! I’ve been watching a lot of Movies & TV Shows lately that don’t have subtitles translated and was using the googletrans Python library to translate the files myself but my script kept skipping lines for some reason, couldn’t figure out why. Rather than keep wracking my head to figure it out decided t see if someone had already done this, and found your site! Very useful & cool!
Thansk for the feedback. May be the SRT file contains some special encoding or characters which make it not recognizeable. Is it possible to send me a copy (or part of it) for analyzing?
Akbar, Just a note to let you know I still do not see the original text or the translated text. I updated to the current FireFox, and I used FireFox’s “Forget about this site,” which is the most complete cache clearing took I know of for individual websites. HOWEVER, in reality it is not a problem to not see the text, because the tool still works. The very first time I used it, which I believe was the 4th or the 5th of October, I saw both the original and translated text. I have used it several times since and have not seen the text again. It has done an excellent job translating however. Especially useful is the “Inprogress” copy, which gives both the original and translated text one over the other for each caption. That makes it possible for us to save that as a Word document and provide it to a human translator fluent in the translated language and have them make corrections with Word’s track changes, which we can see and then copy and paste into the translation srt file in a text editor like Notepad++. That feature is just outstanding. Thank you again Akbar for your excellent tool.
Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the original/translated text, are you talking about the right most column in the sub-titles editor table where it shows both the original and translated text as top/bottom rows? If yes, did you try clicking on the overlap/merge icon the heading of the “Original Text” column? I think that should toggle its visibility. It looks like my some recent fixes in another area droppped the tool-tip-, so it’s confusing to find what button does what. I will fix that soon.
Hi, Mr Akbar thank you for your work, it’s help me a lot for translating the whole subtitle at one time.
Great works.
If anybody having problem with nothing happen after upload the text, yes as mr Akbar said, CLEAR CACHE from your browser. It’s work well with me.
Greeting from Indonesia
Sorry for the trouble. There is known issue preventing some users from continuing with translation. Can you please try clearing your browse cache and see if that helps?
Thank you for your wonderful tool. By helping break down language barriers you have helped bring people in different lands together, making the world a better place. FYI, I too had a problem today with neither text showing (not the original, and not the translation, and I updated FireFox after seeing your note, and tried Chrome, but still did not display the text). However, the translation still saved/exported, so it worked enough. I will try again later today or tomorrow and let you know if the problem continues. Thank you again Akbar. Best, Mike
Thanks for the feedback Mike. As I mentioned earlier, if you don’t see the subtitle text after uploading a file, try clearing your browser cache. I know it’s not ideal, but may work as a temporary workaround until I deploy the better fix for this issue.

This is a life saver. what a lovely wonderful website! keep it going hero!
Thank you, very useful and helpful to enjoy content in other languages. Great job creating this website. Greetings from the other side of the screen.
I cannot find a way to choose english. The translation is automatically in Spanish.

Thank you for this page. Unfortunately there are some bugs. First is a double text on correction of translated text which can not be deleted.

Is it possible to add the DeepL translator?
Thanks, it’s definitely in my to-do list. But please note that it may not be available as a free option.

Just a heads up that DeepL is now supported. Please try when convenient, and let me know how it goes.

Akbar,
FYI, when I wrote my comment below, the problem was on October 4, at about 1:00 pm (Caifornia, USA), and my comment was sent about 8:00 that same day.
