Why Pay for Subtitles Translations?
Well, I may have mentioned this dozens of times in past, if not more, as my comment replies that I will try to keep the subtitles translation service for free as long as it’s technically feasible. Fortunately, things haven’t changed much yet and it’s still possible to offer this for free. Google and Yandex translators both still provide free translation widgets, and using any these for translating subtitles is still provided free of cost on this website.
However, there are some premium translation services, like DeepL, Microsoft, Amazon, etc, which, unfortunately, are no longer free (and some were never free from the start). On top of that, their translation API cost is so expensive that I simply can’t afford to integrate and open these to public for free. Like Microsoft Azure charges around $10 for one million characters. Which doesn’t sounds that much at first, but is roughly around $2 dollar for a normal size subtitle file. DeepL is even more expensive and charges around $25 per million characters. So, with this price cost, even with approx. 10 translations per day, you can see how expensive this can get very quickly and hard to keep up as free service.
But all this being said, the quality of some of these translators, especially DeepL, is so much better than their free counterpart that a few of you looking for premium quality have asked me in the past for their support nevertheless; and are even willing to pay for these. So here we are – where I’m trying to introduce a new payment model. Here you, as users of these services, have to pay for the translation on demand for these translators.
I’m also thinking of building some community payment model soon, which will be more like payment pool based on donations and voluntary contributions from community. This way some of you who can’t afford to pay will still be able to enjoy few of these premium services. But first, I will first see what kind of response I get from you all about this new scheme.
That’s all for now. As always, if you have any other suggestion or comments, please do share below.
I am kinda too lazy to upload file every single time. so is there any chance I can get hands on translation script you use for Google API since it is free.
Yeah, there is nothing secret about it and it’s very basic script as well. The only hard part is that it’s so tightly integrated with my overall site and theme that I can’t extract it to single file I can share. But you can look at the script source using Chrome Developer Tools and see if you can easily replicate that yourself.

I already have a Deepl account and pay them monthly. Why do I have to pay you too?
That’s because DeepL charge for the translation for the API calls. Do you have a API Pro license and want to your own API key for translation? I guess that model can work too, but I didn’t enable this as you would have to share you private key with my website for it to use for translations. So there is some leakage/sharing risks and concerns, and that’s why I didn’t go for that model. But happy to look into that if there are enough requests.

Do you have monero or any other wallet for accepting payments?
Sorry, not at the moment. But thinking of supporting some other payment gateway soon.

Hola Akbar.

Hi! Thanks for your work! Is it possible to add Portuguese (Brazilian) to the list of google translations?
Thanks for the feedback. It looks like Google doesn’t yet support Portuguese (Brazilian) for translation. Once it adds support for that, it should appear in this list automatically.

Why is not free like. A Google ,,tell me I am so confused googel translater actually very good no problem to understand language sentence but why is Microsoft translater cost
Well, that’s a good question. I tried to answer this question when I first introducted the payment mode on this tool:
https://blog.syedgakbar.com/why-pay-for-subtitles-translations/
But in short it’s more like Google may not be the best translator for all language pairs. But then these others translators (Microsoft, DeepL, etc) don’t provide any free translation APIs. So I need to add some payment model to support these for those who want to use these. If you are happy with Google translate results, don’t worry about others and enjoy while it stays free.

In terms of grammar, Google’s sentences are not really standard and do not fit the context, such as the way of addressing characters based on age, status, relationship…
Hi Akbar!I would like to use the application made by you through an API access. May? Of course we should also have a discussion about paying to use the application …
With thanks
George
Thanks George for the suggestion. Supporting an API mode at this point doesn’t sound very feasible for me (in terms of overall infrastructure changes to support it). However, I will keep this in my to-do list, and if at any point it looks like this can be help to majority of users, I will add support for that.

Thank you for your Effort Akbar!
100 lines testing should be free
Yeah, thought about it. But with my current user workload even 100 lines free translation can become too costly to maintain. But it all depends on how many user just try it, and from those, how many actually end up using the service reducing this overall cost. Thanks for bringing this up anyway, I will give this process a bit more thought.

Hello Akbar! Thank you for being transparent and supporting such a wonderful service.
I use DeepL for other things and I admire their accuracy. I think it would be great to integrate their service and transfer the cost to users (exactly like how Azure is integrated now). This way, the user has the choice.
Best, X
Hi Xiaowan, as you may have figured it out, I was finally able to integrate that DeepL service as well. I hope you found that service of help.

100 lines preview for Microsoft [testing] not working…
Thanks for the feedback. Can you please confirm which part is not working i.e. translation fails with some error message, or something else is wrong? If it fails with any error message, can you please share it here?

Akbar
