This translator is brilliant 🙂
Offcourse the text will never be better than the translator engine, so eg. translating english to norwegian will have some flaws. But it saves a lot of work for translating related languages, like danish or svedish to norwegian.
But I notice a small issue with the webpage (at least this happens in chrome): After uploading a subtitle I select the language to translate from and to, and the preview text shows that the first subtitles are translated ok. Then I choose “save as”. Now I see that the saved .srt file only have translated the first 20 lines or so.
I discovered that to be sure that the subtitle is 100% translated I must scroll down and overlook all the translated text before I press “save as.
It would be nice if the translator webpage had a progress bar or something so that we could tell if it was ready before saving.
But as an overall comment, I really enjoy this webpage. Thank you.
That scrolling down issue, is not really a problem – as long as you know it.
Perhaps you should add a small comment below the “Save As” button, informing that you need to scroll down all the text before saving.
Another great feature I like, it that it removes all the html codes when saving it. Some will probably call this a limitation:). But for me its great, since my dreambox media player dislikes these codes, so I allways need to remove all of them and also save it as UTF-8. It looks like your website does all this for me.
A suggestion:
You could add a optional Donate via paypal button, so that people can donate to you if they want to. Starting donation could be as low as 1 USD, I know I would gladly donate that for your work.
Thank you
AKbar please please please address this I am begging you. I have 9 seasons of a TV show with 25 episodes each – and I use your site to translate the subs to Chinese – I will be 101 years old before I can complete this task! Thanks I am confident you have a way to fix this back to how it was previously 🙂 champion
I am uploading and srt file in english to translate to spanish, It does the job on the web page but when I donwload the file it remains in english not in spanish …. ??
Although it is in spanish it still comes on in english
I tried the Bing translate option, but it is not at all better for Romanian. I am really sorry. I use English and French translations which are very good, but I cannot use my native language.
Anyway, thank you for doing such a good work.
Best regards from Romania.
I’m sorry to hear that Bing translate option is not working for you either. These widgets are based on Machine Translation, and may not work best for some languages. It may take few more years (hopefully) to get these automatic translators to reach a satisfactory level.
Romanian translations have many missing words, even missing lines. Impossible to use any translation in Romanian.
In rest, it is the best subtitle translator. Ever.
Many thanks for your excellent job.
Today is the first time I couldn’t just upload an .SRT file and hit translate. It only translated about 80% (A guess). I had to scroll down and pass all the english text to force it to translate. Until I scrolled by it did not translate quite a bit of it. It only translated as I scrolled. If there is a delay you should prevent a download until the translation engine says it finished. Why let someone download a partially translated file? It doesn’t make any sense. It never happened before today.
I’m using Google Translate widget, and this new translate-on-scroll feature/limitation is by them. I’m looking into some ways to avoid this without violating any of their Terms & Conditions, but so far you have to scroll to make the translation works.
Also, can you try the new Bing Translate feature, and see if this is better?
Hey Akbar – any update on the scroll to translate limitation? I know you’re looking into it and I am hoping that you found a way. I use this often and I translate whole seasons of TV shows to chinese – that is sometimes 25 subtitles or more. Scroll to translate is making this a really tedious and longer job now 🙁
I have a workaround to automate this but haven’t implemented this as not aware of any legal consequences for automating this process. I can’t guarantee when I should be able to implement this, but will try soon.
If those are the rules those are the rules. I can’t remember if I ever hit the translate button in the past or not. I know it always worked. Maybe I did hit the button. I’m not sure.
My wife only speaks Spanish and a lot of times I can only find English subtitles. The translations aren’t perfect but they are definitely good enough. Thanks a lot for setting up this site. It’s really appreciated.
I think the problem is that you are closing the Google Translate bar before saving the Subtitle File. Can you please first save the translator file, and then close the the translator bar?
Hi love this site Can you just do 2 things 1 For some reason i need to scroll (Using Chrome) for al of the srt to be translated 2 Can you remove the language exten aka “se” in my case to the saved file name.
Thanks akbar, this very usefull.

The reason why you have to scroll down for the translation to complete is a known limitation, and I may address this soon in future.

A great timesaver, thank you very much.
I can confirm you have to scroll the complete subtitle to activate the translator.

The file that gave me a problem was translating this (http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitleserve/sub/6833019) to Spanish.
If you contact me by email I will send you one of the partially translated files to help you figure it out.
