May depend on the type of the file and/or browser. If you have a file, where it consistently fails, can you please email me that or share a link so that I can investigate the issue?
I have 2 questions:
-1) why the scrolling down to get everything translated? I’m sure a “script” can do that and a “while processing” can lock the download button to be valid/clickable first after the script has handled it
-2) I like to translate between English-Russian-Dutch. But each time I have to select through this huge list of languages from the google-language dropdown menu.
Any way you could implement something like a cookie storing language preferences so let’s say I select eng->(Russian&Dutch) and then all the .srt I move to there will all be translated automatically to Russian&Dutch?
Also Batch processing would be fine. Like having the option to upload a bunch of srt and they all will be translated from English->Russian&Dutch or from Dutch->Russian&English
Of course not just for me, for all users to have such a great automated option?
I could write such scripts myself but I lack the time mostly but I could help you on your website so I don’t need to reinvent the wheel so to speak.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. The auto-scroll script can definitely can be created, and is already in my to-do list. Your idea to filter the language list is good one, but you can also do quick search in the list by typing starting characters of the target language.
Regarding your batch processing ideas, a one major limitation in this is that Google and other free translation services limit the size of free translation on a web-page. So if we try to batch process this, it will not work. However, some tricks may work here, and will what can be done with reasonable effort. Thanks again for your feedback.
Just a quick update. I have now added the new “Translate” button to scroll through all the visible lines to automate the translation. Stay tuned for the other updates soon.
They seems to have some daily quote limit which may have expired. Unfortunately, in this case, the best you can do is to try any other translator. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Sorry for the late reply. Did it finally worked for you? Did you tried changing or upgrading the browser you were using? If still having problem, please let me know.
This is wonder full but small issue that means it translates exact word but not meaning full Ex (where are you going this sentence original tamil meaning is enga porah but u translate porah enga )thats not correct if any tamil people works in your company please consider thank you.
Thanks Abubakkar for the feedback. This is a machine/automatic translation so the quality is not going to be that great. However, it keeps improving with time, so will get reasonable in near future.
but first, it just download in .sbv, and when I convert the file to .srt and then try to upload it here, it doesn’t work. There comes an error message saying: “this is not a valid sub-title file”. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any clue.
From the error description, it looks like the file is not being converted to correct SRT format. I just tried converting this using the captionsconverter.com online tool, and it worked for me. Can you try that? If the problem persists, can you please email me the converted subtitle file with which you are having problem?
BTW, it looks like .SBV file format is not that tricky to parse. So will probably try to support this natively too in near future.
Thanks for the feedback. What browser you are using? Can you please try with latest Chrome or Firefox browsers? Also, did you try any other translators other than Google, and see if these works?
Dear Akbar, what a wonderful tool. I don’t know if this was adding to someone’s problem of saving files, but I noticed every translation I sought to save, added a . with first two letters of translation BEFORE the .srt I knew to delete the added . so that mycaptions.it.srt became mycaptions.srt and saved as that, all files saved accurately.
Thanks for the feedback. This automatic appending of the target language code is a feature to help you get a different file to avoid any name conflicts with an existing one. Its normally useful when you are translating to multiple languages. However, if you don’t want this, you can easily turn this off by unchecking “Append Language Code” check-box at top right corner (near the Save As button) before downloading file. I hope that helps.
Akbar, thank you for explaining what the option “Append Language Code” means. Actually I am doing multiple languages, and that prefix dot before srt did indeed serve to help me to distinguish which language it was when I saved, so your intended design did its job, despite my not understanding there was a purposeful rationale behind it, and thinking it was a mistake. Also, I did not understand I had to scroll down each time so all lines would be translated, and this led me to having to come back and redo. But now I know. Some of us are not so intuitive and it takes trial and error to understand! I super appreciate what you have done here for all people. Thank you tremendously.
Thanks for the feedback. What browser you are using? Can you try with latest Firefox or Chrome and see if that helps. If still can’t no success, please let me know and I will look into that.
hi i cant save
many times i save once and download and then it won’t allow me to saave again, i usually do it every 50 lines so that i dont lose them if i lose connection to the internet and cant download but many many times the save as button only works once and then is deactivated its causing me problems, im a subtitler and use ur otherwise great service for reference- apart from this
Thanks Nicola for the feedback. I think I have isolated and fixed this problem. Please clear your browser cache, and try again. If still experience the problem, please let me know.
I now see you have already listed instructions of “Why only few top few lines are being translated?” to explain what happened to me, why only some lines, so please excuse the limits of a busy mind not soaking all you have already put in place!
Thanks for the feedback. I’m having some problem with Google translator loading. While I investigate this, can you please try the FireFox browser or any of the other available translators, and see if that works? Sorry for the inconvenience.
Whatever the problem was, it looks like you fixed it, since now it works perfectly again. Thank you so much. I noticed that now there are two fields to select the language, is it a new feature? Best regards
No, it should show only the single one. I was just trying various ideas to make it work. Hopefully, this will change back to single once the release is deployed.
Dear Akbar,
Thanks for very usefull, afficient and well designed application.
Maybe you can help, lately the “Google Translate” lost its language options
that until recently offered by drop-down list. vanished.
Thanks and best wishes.
