Hello.I want to translate from english to persian.I did that but it ‘s format is not true.(I want to show subtitle Right Align)

In most Subtitle formats, the choice of the language direction (left-align or right-align) is not part of the file format itself but is instead decided by the video player. So please check the settings of the video player you are using, and should hopefully find an option to toggle the line alignment when playing video.

    Hello,
first of all thank you very much for this wonderful website!
can i please ask for a feature of right to left of symbols (not the align right option)
if i’m translating to my language it lloks like this: !wait
and i need it to look like this: wait!
if you could add that option that would make this site perfect.. thank you 🙂

Does this happen for any particular language translation pair? BTW, you can also try to use find/replace feature to see if that does the trick for you after translation.

Do you mean there are some bad characters? If you can share an example of these, I can see if this is a website issue or a translation API problem.

So you want to build a subtitle translator yourself or want to create a website with a template like mine?

If you want to build a website like mine, I created it using my custom-built framework, called Swift. More on it here:
      https://blog.syedgakbar.com/2015/06/28/swift-php-mvc-framework/

If you want to build a subtitle translator, it’s unfortunately a lot more complex and requires considerable effort, but you can probably still start with exploring Google Webpage Translator and a simple SRT file parser on server side.

please add feature exclude. so the some spesial words will not be translate

The exclude feature may not be that simple to support as I’m using web translator widgets, but I think you can always replace particular words after the translation is done. You can also replace a batch of words in single step to make it even easier for repetitive tasks.

Thanks! I had a quick look at their website, and can’t seem to find any translation API. Am I missing something? A translation API or Web Widget is must to integrate the translation in my current system.

I use a VPN. Your translator page automatically displays in the language of the country my VPN is hosted in at that moment. Sadly I cannot understand the foreign languages it displays. Is it possible to add a language selector button?… P.S. I like you translator. It’s a marriage saver. Thanks for providing it

Thanks for the feedback Bob! I assume you are using Google Translator. If yes, this is a kind of known limitation or feature. I guess the workaround, for now, is to either not use the VPN when first loading the page (you can enable it later ON during translation), or you can translate the language name using Google online translator and see if that helps you in language selection. I will see if there is some option in Google widget to not translate the language itself.

Some words don’t translate. So I translate the word and manually insert it. But when I hover the mouse to select the insertion place, a dialogue box pops up and obscures the area completely. Can you alter the popup dialogue so it does not cover the selected sentence?. Or, perhaps you could slow it down a little.

This comes from Google translator widget and is not under my control. One possible workaround is to download the file first and then re-upload it for editing. This should get rid of that original language popup from Google. I will see if there is some better workaround/fix for this though.

Very useful programme. A couple of comments..
    a) Can’t make it translate from Greek to English. Is there a way to select the ‘from’ language?
    b) When loading a second file the translator runs much slower.
    c) It would be great if it could use a cookie to remember the last used language session to session. I almost always use english/spanish.
Thanks. Keep up the good work. P

Thanks for the feedback, Peter. Unfortunately, the Google translator doesn’t allow dynamic selection of the source language. It tries to auto-detect the source language and obviously can’t always find the correct source due to the other content on the page.

I can’t reproduce the slowness during the second translation, but a few others have complained too, so I will look into this soon.

Finally, your suggestion to auto-remember the last language pair is a good one. I will add this to my to-do list.

Thanks for the detailed report on the issue. Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce this in my quick testing. A few other users have reported a similar problem in past, but so far I’m not able to isolate it. Maybe it’s related to some browser version? What browser you are using? Is it possible to try with the latest Chrome, Firefox or Edge browsers and see if you can still reproduce this behaviour?

Hello! Thank you for your hard work and such a wonderful and useful program for translating formatted srt files! Today I had an unusual problem: I uploaded an srt file in Brazilian Portuguese with the intention of translating to English using the Google option. However, unlike previous experiences, I was unable to select a target language. Please see the screen shot here: https://i.ibb.co/NjGjhW1/Screen-Shot-2022-12-09-at-06-00-21.png Meanwhile, the program immediately started “translating” without any input from me and ended after a few short lines with an error message. On examination of the text window below the input box I saw that the source and translation columns both contained the same Portuguese text. I’m using browser FFv102.4.0esr (64-bit) on MAC OS 10.12.6 (Sierra). I tried clearing the cache / cookies, restarting the browser, restarting the computer, nothing helps. I switched the software option to DeepL and confirmed that a target language chose was available there. My preference is to use Google Translate, but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, because it has worked in the past. Thank you in advance for any guidance and assistance you can provide. Regards, A

Hi Archy, thanks for sharing such detailed feedback and screenshot. The problem is that sometimes Google Translator fails to load in a few regions. This is mainly due to some temporary maintenance by Google and hopefully should auto-resolve soon. Once the service is back, you should see the standard Google Translator language selection widget. Once you get that, it should start working as normal. In the meantime, I guess you can try using the Yandex free translator to see if that works for you?

It’s unbelievably useful for me. i want to tell you something, in translation from english to Turkish language; google translating “No” as if “abbr. of number” but in Turkish we use it as negative answer; not abbr. of number…(for example, wld u like any more cake? No, thks. translating “Numara, teşekkürler)

Thanks for the feedback. I assume you are using Google Translator for that? If yes, then this translation mapping is controlled by Google AI engine and I don’t have control over it. You can probably report this to Google Translation team for improvement. In the mean time, I guess you can make use of the Find/Replace feature of the editor on the page to manually fix these errors?

Dear Mr. Abar: I would like to commend you on your generously making this super-convenient application available at no cost to the public. I have one idea, which would help me a lot. Instead of multiple files, is it possible to specify multiple languages for a single file? Thanks!

I wonder if it’s possible to export subtitles from multiple TS-Files at once? I’ve hundreds of recorded files. Maybe you know a plugin or solution. Thanks for your work!

Hi, I don’t have experience extracting subtitles from TS files, but searching on the web, it looks like the following software may work for you:
      – Subtitle Edit
      – CCExtractor – CCExtractor is the de-factor open source standard for closed captions/subtitles extraction from any media file
      – ProjectX – demultiplexing, editing and repairing tool for MPEG2, TS

There are mixed reviews on the web and while one works for some, it may not always do the job for others. So please research and explore, and see if any of these helps.

Sir, can you tell me what is the option you use to scroll through all the subtitles lines? Can I use it when I want to translate a whole page in browser? I don’t want to scroll… Thanks!

    | Reply

I think what you are looking for you is the “Translate” button next to the language selection dropdown. This button auto-scrolls and verifies that all content is translated correctly before you can download the file. You can also see the following video tutorial for details:

Yes, I understand that. My question is this: is there a script or just a keyboard shortcut to auto-scroll text on any page in Google Chrome? Thanks!

        | Reply
        • admin

Well, there are probably many, but I don’t know of any such extension myself. Though I know of one shortcut and that’s if you have mouse with a middle/scroll button, you can click that on any webpage to activate the auto scroll mode. I hope this helps.

Sorry for the trouble. Do you get any particular type of error during upload? Can you please ensure the file you are uploading is a valid Subtitles file in support formats (.SRT, .SUB, etc?) If you think all is good and it’s still failing, please send me a copy of the subtitle file or its first few lines for further debugging?

Multiline text replace seems to cause double original text lines.

    i.e

    Hello
    World

    replace with

    Hello
    NotWorld

    Becomes

    Hello
    NotWorld
    World

Thanks for the feedback. I can’t seem to replicate this issue in a quick test. Are you sure there are no before or after special characters in the words you re-typing? Also, can you please make sure Multiple Words find/replace is enabled in the find dialog? If the issue persists, would it be possible to send me the file you are having a problem with?

      Regards,
      Akbar

        This is how to reproduce.

Take any file that has at least 1 sentence that has been divided into two lines.

        i.e

        subtitleBlock:

        Hello
        World

Now translate that to another language using google translate for example (I translated to Estonian).

        Should say
        Tere
        Maailm

Now edit the translation to change “Maailm” to anything else and it will double the word.Saving the file and then reopening it doesn’t cause any problems.

Ah, right! You were using the line find/replace feature, while I was trying this with the whole file find/replace feature.

I’m now able to reproduce the problem and will fix it soon. In the meantime, I think you can workaround by editing the content directly without opening this special find/replace dialogue by just clicking the content and then typing it there.

          Regards, Akbar
