Sorry for the trouble. Looks like the re-try failed and messed up the timing sync. I will investigate what went wrong there, but have issued full refund to start with.

Hello! Deepseek translation for subtitles seems to skip some blocks/lines. Every 9, 10, or 50 ish lines.

How have recent updates to DeepSeek translator and Gemini models improved subtitle translation quality and user experience?

    | Reply
    • Akbar

It depends on the underlying model of each translator. The newer models bring in better translation quality but at the increased overall cost. Also, it varies from language pair to pair, so I would suggest to explore this for a subset of your subtitles.

I’d just like to say thanks for making the only one of these online subtitle translating tools that understands that line-break lives matter.

Thanks for the feedback Pedro. Yeah, it’s mostly due to the real world users like you who have forced me to support this in all the various translators 🙂

Hello! I paid for a translation via bank card. I didn’t receive the transfer, but the money was debited 4 times ($0,24 – 4 times + $1 taken by PayPal for each payment).

    • Akbar

I’m really sorry for the trouble. Unfortunately, I don’t see any transfer on my end of transaction. So most probably these transactions are being blocked by PayPal for some reason. I would suggest initiating a dispute on Payments from your PayPal account activity tab. You can also reach out to PayPal support team for help. As I don’t have any record of this transfer on my end, unfortunately, I can’t be of much help.

Sorry for the trouble Mike. Looks like you are running into partial missing lines issue. You can read more about the reason and fixes of this here:

If there are more than few dozen of these missing lines, please let me know and I’m happy to issue a full refund.

Hello, I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding it or you are. My problem is not the translation but that the original file is not read in completely. Lines are missing, which are then of course also missing in the translation.

        • Akbar

Interesting! This is a new one. My hunch is that it’s probably due to some bad parser on my end or is a problem with the subtitle file itself. Would it be possible to either share your order number or email me the subtitle file so that I can isolate what’s causing this odd behaviour.

Hi, Akbar! That problem happened once again with order#ct4QwwOJXXXX.

Thanks for reporting this to me Nadya. The core issue here is that some of the translation tasks die silently on the server side, mainly because DeepSeek doesn’t response in timely manner. I’m working on improving this to auto resume such tasks, but in the mean time have issued full refund for this failure.

    Hello Akbar
Thanks for this wonderful service and the website.
I have a problem with yandex translator. I couldn’t make it work. it stucks at 22% and says there is problem with connection.
    Can you help?

    | Reply
    • Akbar

Hi Mehmet, sure. I can have a look. Just for understanding what language pairs (source and target) you are using? Also, when this happen, have you tried any translations before in that same batch?

Yandex sometime throttles the translation requests, so when that happen, it would be worth trying this from another browser or via VPN and see if that helps.

    Hello Akbar
Of all the options available to me, the English-to-German translation by “DeepSearch” is the best so far. The translation quality and timing are impressive.
However, an average translation (feature movie with a relatively large amount of text and a running time of 2 hours) takes about 25 to 30 minutes, which is significantly longer than the other options (about 1 minute to 5 minutes, depending on the option).

      Hi Matthias,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Firstly, I’m glad that DeepSeek is doing much better job for you.

Regarding the performance issue, unfortunately, it’s a known issue and problem is that their server are under so much load that it takes 2-3 minutes per batch of translation. I’m already doing mutli-threading to run this in parallel, but still mainly limited by throttling on their server. Hopefully this will get better with time, but for now have to live with this as is.

Sorry for the trouble there Reggie. I assume this was the case with your recent translation using DeepSeek? If yes, I see that it somehow restarted translation at the very end, and that’s why system though it’s still processing. I’m investigating this issue and will try to fix as soon as I have reproducer.

BTW, you were never charged for that failed/partial translation. So in case this happen again, please just re-upload and try again. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If ChatGPT (or other models) is/are capable of OCR, would a project that could do subtitles be possible? As in possibly being able to supply it with a .sub file and the corresponding .idx file and outputting an .srt file

    | Reply
    • Akbar

Thanks for bringing this up Zach. Yeah, it’s entirely possible and with advancement in the AI, it’s probably not much hard work as it was few years before. Though there are two problems/hurdles here:

      1. This image processing would required lot more powerful server(s) than I currently have for running text based translations. This is probably not a major issue if there is enough demand of it and investment/support.
      2. The other thing is that there are already dozen or so, very professional services doing it already. They are expensive for sure, but then they have invested in the major infrastructure to support it in the first place.

All that being said, I’m not saying that I will never do it. May be if there is enough push and time, I can think about this. But I don’t see this happening in very near future. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi, thank you for your great work.

In order number 1iS8NxXXXX at line number 315, the German translation is halved and moved to a new line. As a result, the subtitles are asynchronous from then on. This occurs again and again later on so that at the end there are the same number of subtitles again. I use the paragraph translation mode and have tried it twice but with the same result.

Sorry for the trouble Mike. Lines sync or split issue is unfortunately common in most of LLM models, mainly because of some in-built randomness in these models and type of data these are trained on. You can read more about this and possible workaround here:
      https://blog.syedgakbar.com/subtitles-translator-faq/#misaligned-translation

If this continue to happen, the best suggestion is try other translators and see if they work comparative better?

PS. I have issued full refund for both of your orders.

Paid translations are worse than free ones. Many lines remain untranslated.

Sorry for the bad experience Kristian. If you subtitle file contains multiple languages, then these translator doesn’t work very well as they can’t keep the context when translating blocks. However, you can always re-translate few of lines after translation without paying more. Please see this section for help:
      https://blog.syedgakbar.com/subtitles-translator-help-tips/#retranslate-block

Regarding the issue of partial misalignment or shifting, this is unfortunately common in most of LLM models as these were never designed for translation and have some in-built randomness. You can read more about this and possible workaround here:
      https://blog.syedgakbar.com/subtitles-translator-faq/#misaligned-translation

That said, I have issued a full refund of your order with major shifting. If you want refund for any other orders as well, please just let me know their order number. No questions asked 🙂

I tried Deepseek model but it’s very slow, and I couldn’t translate many files in parallel since I have to wait for each translation process to complete to start a new one, also if I moved from the translation progress page I won’t be able to return back to see the progress of the translation

    | Reply
    • Akbar

Thanks for the feedback Hossam. Yeah, unfortunately, this is a know issue with DeepSeek as they are under heavy stress and some of the translation API calls take 2-3 minutes for just few lines. Hope to see this improve as they get better infrastructure, but nothing in my control.

Regarding the file translation in parallel, you can try to do this in multiple browsers or in incognito mode. As long as you have the browser tab open, the translation should keep progressing. Though I think it throttles the page to refresh after a minute or so.

Yeah, I’m getting good feedback from others on DeepSeek too, but it’s very slow at the moment as some API requests end up taking 2-3 minutes, causing timeouts on server. Hopefully this will improve as their team upgrade their infrastructure.

What a great service you’ve built, thank you so much for constructing this website!

May I ask if it is possible to target only one specific language to translate if the source subtitle has multiple languages in it? For instance, I want to only translate words that are in Simplified Chinese into Traditional Chinese, from a subtitle file that also contains some English words in it, which I’d like to have them remain intact.

    • Akbar

      Thanks for the feedback Wilson.

Interesting feature request you have. May I ask what translator you are using? If you are using any LLM based translators (Gemini, Chat-GPT, etc), you can also give “Additional Instructions” in “Prompt Extension” dialog. You can then instruct the translator to do something along these lines – a plain English instruction is enough. I’m not sure it’s going to work 100% correctly, but there are good chances that you may achieve some good results. Hope this helps.
