This is strange, because I just tried this and it seems to be working for me. Are you trying to edit before translation or after translation? Do you have experience of using Chrome Developer Tools, if yes, can you please let me know if there is any JavaScript error when you click on the Pencil icon? If no, here is very quick tutorial on how you can check these: https://developer.chrome.com/devtools/docs/console
Awesome job simple (although not for you im sure) and as precise as one can expect for rough translations, allowing for local affections etc. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Now if you can code something for world peace as your next venture, lol. Thanks Again for all your work.
Can You add button beside replace text’s button when we are editing text/word? the button is replace one word used to change/edit text just one line not for replace all text which have same words. the buttons are Repacle one and Replace all. many Thanks.
This feature is already supported, but hidden in the existing interface. The way it works is that if you want to replace-all instances of a specific word, then highlight that word, and then click on the pencil icon in the row. This way only single word will appear in the dialog, and doing a replace there will do a replace all on the page. I hope it helps.
Request:
1) file re-naming upon save-as
a) allow the user to set in the options field to rename the file(s)
b) Allow the user to not only set a name, rename, but also append _dut, _eng, _ger
and other languages automatically
c) Allow the user to set not only 1 language, but multiple languages
2) automatic save-as using options for file re-naming
3) allow a login, storing the settings so a user just have to login to use his previous settings
i.e. I need all languages always translated into german, english, dutch and russian.
I want the files, in my case, to be:
original_eng.srt
original_ger.srt
original_dut.srt
original_rus.srt
translating and saving files with these names could be done in a single click, or even automated without click, if the user login and have this setting enabled.
better: write a small desktop program to handle this based on your online generator.
Have a add-software for this
Ask users for a donation to get rid of the add
I’m sure some more ideas will popup into my head 🙂
These are lost of feature request in one message 🙂 Some are possible, and already in the queue (like rename support), while the others may not be technically possible for now like supporting multiple translations at the same time (due to the way Google Web translation works).
However, I appreciate all your feedback and notes, and will try to work on most of these soon.
Well, even if you can’t get anything done. This tool you wrote for the public is the best on the market!
I’ve tried even desktop solutions including payware, they are so slow, not worth to mention those.
Your solution translates almost instantly!
Also I tried Subtitle Edit, it has a build in translator. But it works very slow as well, faster then payware, but still very slow.
So, my request are NOT a complaint! In fact, I’m very happy with your solution which got me thinking how to make it even better, if possible,
But I understand, google will have restrictions.
For now, I’m supporting only the UTF-8 character set for now. But if you can share the file in the give encoding, I can try to explore to see how can this font can be best displayed correctly.
This is a great tool, thanks! One question, is it possible for the tool to respect line changes in srt subtitles? As of now the lines get very long instead of going on top of each other like in the original srt I uploaded?
I mean like this,
very hard to read
when there are long lines.
Not like this, very hard to read when there are long lines.
Thanks for the feedback, and I think I understand what you are asking for. However, looks like this line spacing is being removed during the translation process, and without adding some very complex line break rules (will vary from language to language), I can’t easily restore these missed line-breaks. So, I think for now, we will have to stick with what we have.
Of course, you can always edit the file after translation, either online or using your favorite text editor, but I can understand that it may be time consuming and cumbersome job.
thanks 😀
Thanks

Well for the speed, all the praise goes to Google. They are master of the area when it comes to lightning fast things 🙂

for some reason, the 1st line is missing after upgrading to FF 36.0
Not sure if it’s related to some plugins under FF or FF making the first line to disappear
Vincent,
This mostly happens due to the encoding of the source file (when it contains encoding marker at the beginning).
