Hi, I have subtitle files extracted from an MKV BluRay, they come out as sup-files. SUP-files are not supported on your translator page. Any chance you can built in support to translate those (or convert to srt first)?
Hi, I don’t support the SUP file format (yet), so I guess you best chance here is to first convert this to the SRT file. Looks like there are many online and offline tools which can easily do that. Just search “Sup to Srt” converter on Google and you will find the few tools to try on.
I assume you are using Google Translator? If yes, probably try after few minutes. Sometime Google Translation widget stops working intermittently to avoid excessive (misuse)use. If the problem persists, can you please share a copy of the subtitle file for debugging?
If you are using any other translator, please share the details and happy to help you.
Sorry, what kind of symbols are causing the problem? If you can explain this in more detail, probably with some example, I can see what can be done here.
Salen símbolos o letras que no son ni del abecedario turco ni del español, pudieran ser del ruso pero no lo se ciertamente.
Yo pongo el archivo y lo escribe en parte con ese tipo de letras y luego la traducción igual. No se si podría mandar foto de algún modo.
Are these odd characters at the start of the subtitle file only, or these are before/after every line? Just trying to understand what could be going wrong here. You can either email me the subtitle (or part of it) or its screenshot at my email address (link available in the footer section of the web-page).
It’s at the footer section of the website. Just remember to replace the “@” and “.” symbols in the email before sending it to me. This is done to avoid reading of email address by bots – to deter spam emails.
Hola de nuevo.
Algo va mal con la pagina. Siguen saliendo simbolos cuando yo pongo una palabra acentuada, cuando las letras no son las del alfabeto español o ingles. Es algo que pasa incluso en estos comentarios que le escribo, de hecho, son los unicos comentarios que salen con letras raras o simbolos. Antes no me pasaba, debe ser algo que hay nuevo en la pagina y que hay que clicar para que funcione.
Gracias
Sorry for the trouble there. From your description, it appears that encoding of the web-page is probably not correct? Did you recently installed any extensions or widget which would auto translate the page? I would also suggestion, opening the website in the Incognito mode or in different browser (Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc) and see if that helps.
Hola!
Trabajo con Safari y siempre ha sido con ese navegador, y no he instalado nada nuevo, que yo sepa… donde puedo ver cual es la configuración que debiera tener para que se ve correctamente? Por si acaso cuando arreglaron mi ordenador tocaron algo de eso.
Gracias
See what’s the “Default Encoding” and can see if changing it to UTF-8 does any help? Also, just for testing sake, I would suggest to try this in any other latest browser (Chrome or Firefox) and see if that helps.
Thanks! I think these are encoding symbols which were not previously being handled properly. This should now be fixed, but in case any of you are still having problems, please do let me know.
I tried with few ASS file formats and these are loading fine. Can you please try with any other ASS file or is it possible to send me a copy of the file for debugging?
Is it possible to download the original and translated subtitles separately? That is, if I don’t need the original English subs, and my goal is to save only subtitles translated into Spanish, can I do it?
Hi Zoe, yes, when you download the translated subtitles, it by default contains only the translated subtitles. You can optionally also download a merged subtitles – containing both source and translated text, but the default is translated subtitles only.
What video player you are using? Can you please look for the settings to show UTF-8 characters in that player? If still doesn’t work, I would suggest trying VLC player and see how it goes.
thank you for responding . I appreciate it . can you please add facebook’s NLLB-200 it’s open-source and very accurate , there are a lot of huggingface spaces but only translate text . there is no .srt file translator . https://github.com/facebookresearch/fairseq/tree/nllb
Interesting, thanks for sharing these ideas. I definitely keep adding these to my to-do list. This one is while very interesting, may not be possible to support in my current website hosting environment. As it requires extensive resources to setup and configure. But yeah, will definitely keep this in my list to explore and integrate, if possible.
Where is the “Translate Button Autoscroll” mentioned in the second FAQ:
“If you are using Google translator, then this is a known limitation. The Google translator widget only translates the visible content on the page. So, either just scroll through all the subtitles or better click “Translate” button auto scroll for the translation to trigger correctly.”
Sorry for the trouble. Any particular error you get during download, or it just silently fails? Asking because can’t seem to reproduce this issue in quick try.
Do you mean subtitle timing are out of sync? If yes, there are multiple online subtitle editor which lets you change the timing (backward or forward) easily. Just search on Google for something like “Online Subtitles Editors”
Also I tried loading money or paying for a translation and I could not pay with either PayPal or my Mexican credit card.
I have the credit card linked to PayPal, and when trying to pay with PayPal, I get a message right away stating I can’t use that specific credit card for this type of transaction.
I will check with my bank about this, but I am pretty sure there is no problem with my CC, I use it often to make online transactions.
Hmm… I have noticed this complain from few other users too and this error is from PayPal during its initial pre-checks before it even pass that info to my website. Probably worth contacting PayPal support as well to see if they can help you isolate this problem.
In the meantime you can try Yandex translator which is free as well.
I am getting today the following error using the Google translator into Spanish, regardless of the subtitle file I use:
Translation failed for dozen of lines, including row#43. Is the target language correct? Internet connection problem?
I already cleared the cache and cookies between tries of different files, and get the same error. Some days ago I tried translating with Google to Spanish and it worked fine.
Sorry for the trouble there. What this error usually means is that Google Web Translator is not working doing any translation. When you select the Google translator, does it seem to translate the subtitle lines visually? Like if instead of clicking the “Translate” button you manually scroll down through the subtitle area, does it seem to translate all lines as your scroll though these subtitle lines? If yes, then this may be your temporary workaround you can try while I investigate and fix what’s going wrong here.
If it’s not doing any manual translation at all, most probably there is something blocking Google Translator from loading on your browser. This could be a temporary block from Google itself and it may restore automatically after few hours. If the problem persists, please let me know and I will be happy to assist and diagnose this problem.
Toggle “Dark Mode” works only in the translation part of the website. And when doing bulk translations, when starting a new file to translate, the toggle is reset. Is it possible to toggle dark-mode on your entire site?
Bro iam use many time this website bcz some movie subtitle available in Bengali website , take from me bro, god bless you, i dont know fluent English, agine thanks 100 times and take love from Bangladesh
Sorry for the trouble. What translator you are using? And I’m not sure what you mean by “exists” the program. I don’t think it can close your browser in any way. Am I missing something?
Thanks! I will look into this in more detail. At a quick glance, it seems like its GPL license and terms (for Education use only) may prohibit this in my project, but I will read more.
Hmm.. that’s odd. I just checked and I see the Tamil language there. I don’t know if would be different per region or area. Have you tried this previously and the language option was there?
This option is already there, though you need a few steps to turn this on. Here are some steps to do this:
1. Translate the subtitle to your target language using any translator of your choice (Google, Azure, DeepL, etc).
2. Click the “Merge Translation” icon in the “Original Text” column header.
3. This will turn ON both original and translated subtitles in the translated text.
4. You can also toggle the order of the source/translation by then clicking on the Align/Merge icon in the “Translated Text” column header.
5. Download you translated file and it should now have both source and translated text.
thank you!

Hmm… in that case I’m not really sure about encoding an issue here. But you can double this anyway:

It doesn’t works on .ass files. It says “This is not a valid subtitle file”
Can you please share your .ASS file first few lines here so that I can understand what’s tripping the file parser?

Apagando a letra chinesa no início da numeração funciona perfeitamente.

That “Translate” button is next to the language selection drop-down. You can view the following video tutorial to see how it works:

And the typo in that sentence is now also fixed. Thank you!
today is not downloadeble

Hi. Can you add Papago translator for translating from Korean to English because Papago is far more accurate compared to Google translate
Hi, thanks! Yeah, I had a quick look at their API and I think I can integrate this on my server. I will try to work on it soon.

Hey! Great job on adding support for ChatGPT Translation. Could you add support for Slovenian language for ChatGPT please?
Thanks! I will try to have this in the next fixes update (hopefully in a day or two).

There is a free version of Chat GPT 4, that should be used instead, Because its free obviously.
