Sorry for the disappointment, but the Chat-GPT API is not free and is expensive enough that I can’t offer it for free in this hobby project. Hopefully, OpenAI will make the older models free or cheap enough to support this free translation one day, but at the moment, I guess Google or Yandex are your only free options.
Doesn’t work for me. I tried to translate using ChatGPT 3.5 subtitles from English to Polish, paid for it but for unknown reason franslated file is also in english.
Sorry for the trouble. I think we were isolate this to a failure in the payment from the PayPal by Debit/Credit card. If you continue to have trouble, please let me know
Thank you for this amazingly good website. But why does it often appear that the translation text fails on more than 50% of the lines. Please, I want to know what it means.
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Are you using Google Translator? If yes, then it mostly fails because Google Server sometime try to put limit on IP (or range of IPs) to avoid stress on their servers. If it always fails particular for a single file, then it might due to a bug here. I would appreciate a sample file so that I can reproduce and fix that properly.
I used Yandex, after I checked there was nothing wrong, everything was translated, only the music sentence (tone logo) was not translated. But that’s okay. Thank You
Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah, Yandex also does put limits on the IP/client. But I’m surprised that after the error everything appeared to be translated fine. I will have a look and see if I can reproduce this behaviour.
I’ve been using this site for a while now, for srt translations, but I’ve never commented here to say thanks, and I think I should do so. I think this website should be a world heritage site! seriously. It is simple, efficient, with almost no bugs found or not impactful. Because of him, I was able to break the language barrier by showing content that was previously inaccessible in another country and/or little explored. I hope the developer knows how uplifting this is for people, and that through a contributive act he was able to help many people. My sincere thanks and utmost gratitude!
Sorry for the trouble there. Just to clarify the problem, the issue is that if you try to save the subtitle file by clicking Save As button after doing translation, it just get stuck? Can you please check if you have any download manage or other extension which might be blocking this download? As normally it should not take more than a minute to download the file after translation.
If you can give a bit more details about your translation flow, I can dig further into this one.
Thanks for the feedback. So you are using the “Save All” button (next to “Save As”) doesn’t download all the files? I just gave this a quick try and it downloaded all the files as Zip file – which you can later extract on your system after download.
Unfortunately, this is more complex issue than it sounds. In short, this happens because sometime AI models (Gemini, ChatGPT, etc) remove the row markers I insert between the lines, thus the two lines become single. I have some workaround in place to avoid this, but due to the randomness in the AI models, it’s hard to get it perfect every time. My hope is that with improvements in the AI models, this issue will fix itself. Like this issue happens rarely with GPT 4o and Gemini 1.5 Pro. But for now the only workaround is to review and manually fix such instance.
Hi Akbar, your service is very useful. However, I have a recommendation to make with regard to Google translations. Your engine is missing an input language for Google translations, and it therefore automatically looks for the language of the input text. Where this causes problems for me is for example: I’m translating a text from English to German. There are also a few Turkish words in the English text, which are names and places. These words are now translated into German as well, because of the lack of an input language.
When you translate a document using Google Translate’s own site, this error does not occur, because the input language is specified.
I would be so happy if you would also include the input language as a field when using Google Translate. Thank you!
Thanks Christian for the input. Unfortunately, the way Google Translation is integrated using Web Widget, it’s not that simple to let user provide the language (it’s currently picked from the content). I will see if there is any other workaround to support it.
Hello Akbar! I haven’t been using your great site for a while. Getting back with a new project now, I just wanted to ask you about line breaks in subtitles: Do you know if the translators know to handle the ‘\N’ caracter, which indicates a line break? Or would it be better to upload the subtitle files without forced line breaks?
Thank you very much!
Hi Joh, welcome back! Yeah, it should be able to handle and preserve line spaces in most of the subtitle file formats. If you run into any issues or have further questions, happy to help you with these.
Great tool and I am impressed by the speed and quality of the translation. I work for a L&D authoring tool and we have a requirement to translate subtitles on bulk so is there any way that you provide an API access for this tool.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, there is no API access at the moment. I will add this to my to-do list, but can’t commit any date/schedule for that.
Sorry for the trouble Josip. If you are using Credit Cards, few other users have reported problem with these too. If you have a debitr card, please try using that.
Otherwise, I would suggest to first load balance to your PayPal account and use the pre-loaded balance to pay for these translations. There is also Crypto payments support (via balance upload), if that’s something your can manage.
Hi, Akbar, how can I translate my SRT with the ChatGPT option without paying? It asks me to make a payment, if I had money I wouldn’t use these tools!

thank you for your good program, the only problem is that if you put multiple subtitles together, it won’t download together.

Hi Akbar OpenAl GPT Tamil language is missing or not available
Thanks for pointing this out. I have now enabled support for the Tamil translation in OpenAI Chat-GPT translator.

This tool is amazing and very good. I’m wondering is there a KODI addon for this? Or do you have any plans of making one?
Thanks for your feedback. There is no short term plan to support this on Kodi, but I will add this to my future to-do list.

It’s not possible to reload credit in cents, right?
Yes, unfortunately, at the moment the minimum is $1.

Hi i am Trying to downlaod 20 translated files and the site crashes and gives me timeout can yo fix that thanks 🙂
Sorry for the trouble Georgi. This is most probably a transient error and in case of any failure, please try again.
I’m planning to migrate to better and faster hosting service soon which should hopefully take care of these intermittent failures.
Regards, Akbar
nice
