Your approach is to show english and chinese in two subtitles separately at the same time. but some players can not understand that kind of SRT file. they will show english first and then chinese later, or not showing subtitle. Thanks for the feedback Tom! What you are suggested for merge subtitles is also supported, but is slightly hidden in the feature set. To merge the subtitles by just new line, once you have the merge subtitles button, click on the “Align/Merge subtitles” button in the Translated Text column. This controls the merge behaviour. I think if you click this button three times, you will see that the line separator is gone, and now if you save the subtitles at this point, it will have the subtitles merged as you want.
I see that interface can get confusing sometimes with this option, and I should probably document this better. I will work on that.

Hi, it looks like something has changed recently in the browser you are using, and it’s no longer showing the downloaded file as notepad editable. Please note that .SRT file is still a text file, and you should be able to open it using note-pad editor as normal. If you don’t get the option to open the file using notepad editor itself, you can still go ahead and open this manually via File -> Open menu (if you are on Windows). I hope this helps.

When you download a translated subtitle file, it only downloads the file with translated subtitles i.e. original subtitle is not stored as part of that file. If you want to keep both the original and translated subtitles in the file, please click on the “Merge Subtitles” button (at top of the Original Text column). This way you will get both the original and translated subtitles in the file for playback.
In case, you want to keep both original and translated subtitles for future editing, then please click on the “In-progress” button instead of the “Save as” to download a file that can be re-uploaded to this website for further editing and refinements.

Sorry for the trouble. I assume this is when using multiple translation feature with Google translator? If yes, Google has some limitations on the size of the content you can translate in one session. If it keeps breaking, I would suggest trying this at a later time, or may be with another free translator (like Yandex). I hope this helps.
Hey Akbar, i suggested to “keywords list” a while ago, but i guess it wont be added anytime soon, so heres an easier one:
Add “apply to all subtitles” checkbox in the magnifying glass option, in order to apply the manual translation to all files when multiple files are submitted.
This would certainly help alot and works kinda similar to a keywords list, so hopefully this is easier to do because its still quite frustrating to individually correct wrong translations which occur in all other submitted files again and again, if this option would be possible it would probably take longer than having a keywords list but atleast it will save hours of work in the long run compared to doing it manually on each submitted file.
BTW, i still get this issue where at some point the auto translate slows down after 3 or 4 files and often the last 10-20 lines dont get translated at all after the 3rd or 4th file, manual scrolling still goes drasticly faster and the files are overall 50Kb to 90Kb tops, i never use “.srt” files larger than that and definately not 200Kb or more.

And these are something that will require some careful design and changes to make sure not only these are scalable, but more importantly, doesn’t break the existing site functionality. However, I have been quite busy with my work lately, can’t give enough time to this project. That said, I still appreciate your suggestions and I think these would be valuable additions to other users too once working. I have added these to my to-do list, but still can’t give a timeframe on when I may be able to solve these. I hope you understand that.
Regarding that slowness issue, this is something more serious one. I will see if I can reproduce and fix this one at priority at least.
Hope you are doing good. I finally got a chance to work on some suggestions and to-do items, and I think I have now incorporated both of your suggestions. Basically, now in the find/replace dialogue, you get tool-bar icons to control this:
– Enter a keywords list in both find and replace text areas. Multiple words are then matched and replaced. This is disabled by default. Just click the button to turn it ON.
– There is an option to find/replace in all currently uploaded files.
Plus while I was there, I also added an option to support case insensitive find/replace. I hope you find these changes of help and this improves your overall productivity.

Just tried the multiple file translator. But am not really satisfied. The translation really slows down after 1st or 2nd file, and then also some of the lines are not translated anymore, and stays in the original language. It seems as if the target language is forgotten somehow. Translating a file per time is a lot quicker and correcter.
I do also see the need for combining lines for a correct translation.
Thanks for the feedback. Can you please check if the files you are trying to translate in the batch are large ones i.e. size is more than 200KB each? Google translator has a limit of characters you can translate in a fixed duration. So if the batch files are large, it will get slow as it reaches near the limit.
For large files, I would recommend trying with 2-3 files at a time, and see what kind of performance you get.
Just tried this and seems to be working for me. Can you please try this again, and if the problem persists, please try using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox browsers. If still no luck, please let me know what browser you are using and any more details on how to best reproduce the issue.
Akbar, great work. Keep in mind: you should maybe join entries, if you want to get them translated by google. (Parts of sentences without context can loose the meaning)
Example:
Try to translate these as 3 parts
1: “I want to introduce the chairman of”
2: “the NYC 2028 Olympic Commission,”
3: “Michael Prince.”

This has been long due in my to-do list but is complicated because we have to ideally split the sentence in the correct position in the translated language to keep the timings in sync. But then this requires an understanding of the target language by parser/splitter to make it perfect. I will see if I can build some fuzzy and quick logic that brings this to some reasonable level.

Maybe this is due to some specific format of a particular SRT file. If you can provide me with a sample SRT file that has this problem, I can investigate what’s causing this to skip that first line.
Do you mean these don’t appear correctly when running in the video player? If yes, what video player you are using? Can you try with the VLC player and see if that works?
Is this when doing Google translation? If yes, are you using the “Translate” button to translate the file? If possible, try other translator options, and see if you can avoid this issue.
Nice tool, really easy to use. Sometimes the New-translation button results in a slower translation of the next file. But an F5 works every time. What would really be handy to add is to set a default target language. Maybe you can write that in a cookie or something, so as long as the browser is open, the tool will the set target language.
Obviously, it should not slow down as it processes more files. I will see if I can isolate and fix that slowness issue. You suggestion to auto select target language is also a nice suggestion. I will try to incorporate that soon too.
Sometimes a subtitle file (extracted from the video itself) fails as a valid subtitle file. It would be helpful to tell what your tool fails on with the file used.
IN what line is th error? Sometime, I noticed there’s a blank line, removing these blank lines often does the trick.

Maybe some browser extension or security software is disallowing the file upload (or causing it to fail). Did you try with any other browser i.e. Chrome and see if that works?
Hi. I am trying to use Google translate to translate subtitles from English to Italian. Of course a lot of the dialogue has to be corrected, often because if a caption is divided into two or more lines each line is read as a separate sentence (a very common mistake in translators). But what I would like to bring to your attention is that I find an error when correcting the text. In practice, the old, incorrect text is not erased properly, leaving bits of sentences that are impossible to delete. Am I the only one to encounter this problem? Thank you.

Do you have any examples of what’s left behind as you edit lines? Are these HTML tags, words, or some other symbols. Like if you can share a source line and what’s left after editing, I will see if I can improve the editing experience.

The Hebrew subtitles do not work in the film

Translation many times is not fulfilled.From 3000 subtitles last 800 hundred not translated.It happens often.What can i do.
