Now getting “Error Code: 6, File Size: 0” when I drop a file into the upload box – starting happening around 16:30 UK time.
also saw “Column ‘Family_Name’ cannot be null”
Like the site it has worked well since I discovered it.
Sorry for the trouble Lily! It looks like there was a temporary problem with the hosting service provider resulting in this failure. It should now be resolved. Please let me know if you still experience this or any other issues.
There is no difference in capabilities, but it’s that 16-K supports up to 4 times more tokens than GPT 3.5, and thus may translate slightly better for larger translations – as it maintains more context. It’s also of help when you want to include large Synopsis or Additional Info texts. You can read more about this here: https://platform.openai.com/docs/models/gpt-3-5
I assume you are using Google Translator? If yes, Google Translation web widget has a limit on the characters it can translate on a page – mainly to avoid misuse of their service. In that case I would suggest you to see if using Yandex translator helps.

quero muito mesmo agradecer pela iniciativa, e muito boa e ajudou-me perfeitamente. existem filmes que so tem legendas disponiveis em ingles e com essa ferramente fantastica foi simples traduzir no meu idioma e adicionar no meu ficheiro. eu gosto de apreciar os filmes nos seus idiomas de origem e apenas ver com subtitulo. espero que futuramente desenvolvas um aplicativo de traducao de legendas para pc. parabens
Is this the problem with Google Translator languages list or with all the translators? If you are using Google Chrome, can you please check if Google Translate is auto kicking-in and translating content on the page? Or try running in the browser Incognito mode and see if that helps. If still no luck, can you please share a screenshot of the page with the issue?
For any paid translations, you also get an email containing the download link as well as a link to download the Invoice after translation is complete. Please check your spam folder if you think you haven’t got that email.
Hi, sure, I now added Vietnamese in the list of supported language. Just remember to clear your browser cache or view in Incognito mode to make sure you are getting latest version of the site (and not the cached one).
Hi! Thanks for your great work with this site! I was using it occasionally only, but now I have some larger projects to translate. Just did a first test with one file and two translations (English and German from Brazilian Português source) by GPT (order#Tk64JiVAo1oKcmrM2UI5). But the supposed German translated file contains an English translation, basically the same as the dedicated English one. What went wrong? Is there a bug when selecting multiple translations from the same source file?
Thanks Johannes for your feedback. Regarding your translation failure, yes, apparently there was a bug which was causing multi-language translation to fail for the GPT translator. I think I have now fixed the issue. So I would recommend you to try this again when convenient. Please remember to clear your browser cache or run in Incognito mode to make sure you are using the latest version of the site resources.
Thanks for the feedback. Are you looking for the option where you want to show both source and translated subtitles? If yes, then this option is already support. You can turn this ON by clicking the “Merge Subtitles” icon (displayed at the top of the Original Text column). I hope this helps.
Hey, the total cost of the translation using chatgpt is telling me it is only 0.40 dollars, Is that amount of money it costs per line? Or the entire subtitle can be translated by that value?
You messed up the translator,…if it was working flawlessly until 1 year ago,..now besides the fact that I’m sitting, I feel bad for nothing else,..some 30 minutes for a translation,…which was usually ready in a maximum of 1 minute,..it doesn’t even do this completely,..when it reaches about 70% it already stops translating,…this with google translate which you had before,..and this nonsense it’s been happening since you decided you wanted money and you spent all that nonsense on money for translation,….it’s the last time I’ll waste precious time with your website. Goodbye,..
Hi, I’m sorry about the bad experience. However, I don’t think this has something to do with my recent changes or fixes. This translation using Google Web widget is more like a hack to make the Google translate the page content without paying for their translation API – and subtitles lines in this case. Google has been slowing tightening the loopholes to avoid misuse of this free service, and I have recently noticed that they stop serving this widget based translation if they notice excessive use from any particular IP. I don’t blame them, they are just trying to improve the quality of their service too.
I have tried to do small tweak/hack in this translation to make Google Translation widget happy. This seems to have slightly improved translation speed, as well as the content which can be translated on the page. If you are doing multiple files translations, try reloading the website after each translation.
The other thing which you can do is that if you are behind VPN, try disabling that to see if that helps. Or may be change the region/state/country in your VPN to see if that helps. I think as long as Google thinks it’s a different user for the multiple translation, it should be good.
Finally, regarding the money aspect, if you believe me, I’m not saving anything from the Paid translation. I just introduced this to make some other uses happy who want to make use of DeepL and OpenAI translators, which are not free, and so expensive, that I can’t afford to offer these for free. This is not a money making website, but just some of my hobby projects. I hope you understand my position.
It’s the feedback from the users like you, which had made it possible to gradually improve this tool to work for best of many others. It’s not perfect, but I’m willing to improve things where possible.
Sorry for the trouble. What translator you are using? Is this consistently failing with a particular Subtitle file? If you can explain the issue in a bit more detail, I can see what I can do to fix the problem promptly.
I enjoy your place and appreciate it. Would it be possible to request an additional option for ChatGPT? You have version 3.5 available, which is great, but we also need to add the 4.0 version of ChatGPT. Can you do that?
Thanks for your feedback and I’m glad you find this tool of help. Regarding the ChatGPT 4.0, that one is already in my to-do list, but currently its API is almost 10 times more expensive than 3.5 variant without some significant improvement on translation part. I was thinking to wait few more months until OpenAI reduce the overall pricing of it. However, I’m happy to open this now if there is enough demand from the users.
Hi Akbar! Thanks for your reply! I’m writing here another post as my reply because the reply-function of your site doesn’t work for me. May be, this has to do with the older browser I am using. I have already done a new single translation job for the German version, so there is now need to retry the multi-language function for the moment. But good to know that it’s working now. Great work you have done. Thanks!
Hi, I have subtitle files extracted from an MKV BluRay, they come out as sup-files. SUP-files are not supported on your translator page. Any chance you can built in support to translate those (or convert to srt first)?
Hi, I don’t support the SUP file format (yet), so I guess you best chance here is to first convert this to the SRT file. Looks like there are many online and offline tools which can easily do that. Just search “Sup to Srt” converter on Google and you will find the few tools to try on.
I assume you are using Google Translator? If yes, probably try after few minutes. Sometime Google Translation widget stops working intermittently to avoid excessive (misuse)use. If the problem persists, can you please share a copy of the subtitle file for debugging?
If you are using any other translator, please share the details and happy to help you.
Sorry, what kind of symbols are causing the problem? If you can explain this in more detail, probably with some example, I can see what can be done here.
Salen símbolos o letras que no son ni del abecedario turco ni del español, pudieran ser del ruso pero no lo se ciertamente.
Yo pongo el archivo y lo escribe en parte con ese tipo de letras y luego la traducción igual. No se si podría mandar foto de algún modo.
Are these odd characters at the start of the subtitle file only, or these are before/after every line? Just trying to understand what could be going wrong here. You can either email me the subtitle (or part of it) or its screenshot at my email address (link available in the footer section of the web-page).
It’s at the footer section of the website. Just remember to replace the “@” and “.” symbols in the email before sending it to me. This is done to avoid reading of email address by bots – to deter spam emails.
Hola de nuevo.
Algo va mal con la pagina. Siguen saliendo simbolos cuando yo pongo una palabra acentuada, cuando las letras no son las del alfabeto español o ingles. Es algo que pasa incluso en estos comentarios que le escribo, de hecho, son los unicos comentarios que salen con letras raras o simbolos. Antes no me pasaba, debe ser algo que hay nuevo en la pagina y que hay que clicar para que funcione.
Gracias
Sorry for the trouble there. From your description, it appears that encoding of the web-page is probably not correct? Did you recently installed any extensions or widget which would auto translate the page? I would also suggestion, opening the website in the Incognito mode or in different browser (Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc) and see if that helps.
Hola!
Trabajo con Safari y siempre ha sido con ese navegador, y no he instalado nada nuevo, que yo sepa… donde puedo ver cual es la configuración que debiera tener para que se ve correctamente? Por si acaso cuando arreglaron mi ordenador tocaron algo de eso.
Gracias
See what’s the “Default Encoding” and can see if changing it to UTF-8 does any help? Also, just for testing sake, I would suggest to try this in any other latest browser (Chrome or Firefox) and see if that helps.
Thanks! I think these are encoding symbols which were not previously being handled properly. This should now be fixed, but in case any of you are still having problems, please do let me know.
I tried with few ASS file formats and these are loading fine. Can you please try with any other ASS file or is it possible to send me a copy of the file for debugging?
Is it possible to download the original and translated subtitles separately? That is, if I don’t need the original English subs, and my goal is to save only subtitles translated into Spanish, can I do it?
Hi Zoe, yes, when you download the translated subtitles, it by default contains only the translated subtitles. You can optionally also download a merged subtitles – containing both source and translated text, but the default is translated subtitles only.

Hi Akbar,
When I want to import a srt file, the site gives me a code 6 and a red cross.
What can I do; this never happened before.
kind regards, Paul Schreinemacher
What’s the difference between GPT 3.5 & GPT 3.5 – 16k?

Thanks for the feedback. The Desktop App is not planned in the near future, but can think about it if there is enough demand.

Lately the language translation list seems to be all in Korean or another Asian language .
Is this the problem with Google Translator languages list or with all the translators? Hi Akbar,
I paid to translate over deepl and need an invoice for that. Is there a possibility to receive that invoice somehow?
Best

For any paid translations, you also get an email containing the download link as well as a link to download the Invoice after translation is complete. Please check your spam folder if you think you haven’t got that email.

Hmm… in that case I’m not really sure about encoding an issue here. But you can double this anyway:
https://support.apple.com/lt-lt/guide/safari/ibrw1075/mac
See what’s the “Default Encoding” and can see if changing it to UTF-8 does any help? Also, just for testing sake, I would suggest to try this in any other latest browser (Chrome or Firefox) and see if that helps.

It doesn’t works on .ass files. It says “This is not a valid subtitle file”
Can you please share your .ASS file first few lines here so that I can understand what’s tripping the file parser?

Apagando a letra chinesa no início da numeração funciona perfeitamente.
Thanks! I think these are encoding symbols which were not previously being handled properly. This should now be fixed, but in case any of you are still having problems, please do let me know.
